Bons Secours West Junior Football League
Newcastle West 1-12 Granagh Ballingarry 1-09 (Referee Michael Browne)
NCW Junior Football team hosted Granagh Ballingarry at the field on a fine Sunday evening for our 3rd round fixture in the West League. We had a panel of 21 available on the night with a mixture of youth and experience. G-B opened the better in the first 15 minutes showing well and moving the ball at speed. NCW settled early on with a fine opening point by Ben Finnegan. This was followed by points from Brian Foley and the evergreen Stephen Kelly following great moves upfield directly from NCW kickouts by Ronan St John who had a solid game in goals. On 20 mins. NCW had a missed goal chance, following the resultant clearance G-B broke down the field and scored a goal which left the score 1-3 to 3 pt in favour of G-B. For the remainer of the half NCW had a lot of possession but kicked a number of chances wide with poor shot selection. On 23 mins Brian Foley added his second on the night following a great solo move and before the half time whistle Ben Finnegan kicked a long range point to close out the scoring. Half time score G-B 1-5 - NCW 0-6pts. NCW controlled the game over the entirety of the second half with Stephen Kelly rolling back the years with a fantastic performance scoring 1g 3pts in a 12 minute spell -all from play. Further points were added by Jack Duggan and Brian Foley to allow NCW win on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-09.
Notable performances on the night from Steven Brosnan, Thomas Quilligan, Todd Donovan, Brian Foley and Stephen Kelly. Thanks to G-B for a fine sporting game and also to referee Mikey Browne who handled the game very well and notably had the full compliment of 4 umpires attending with him which is great to see. Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship Phase 1 Final
Limerick 01-09

Limerick played Tipperary last Thursday 11th May in Mallow. Congratulations to John Ryan, his management, the players, and the extended panel. Congratulations to Andrew Lyons who has represented the club very well so far in the competition.
Limerick Senior Footballers
The Tailteann Cup group stage Group 4 kicked off last weekend in TUS Gaelic grounds with Limerick facing Longford. Iain Corbett was not on the panel due to injury, but we were still well represented by Cian Sheahan and Ruadhan O Connor. Congratulations to Limerick who kicked off their Championship with a win on a scoreline of 2-16 to 1-16. Next up is a trip to Carlow this Saturday with a 3pm throw in. We wish the team the best of luck.
Limerick Senior Hurlers
Best of luck to the Limerick hurlers in Thurles this coming Sunday. No denying that this is a crucial game for Limerick but bound to be a real battle as Tipperary are also pushed for a win. Munster round robin has proven to be a savage battle this year. We hope Limerick can find its past form again, but other teams have improved so it’s definitely proving to be an interesting competition. Best of Luck!

Mr. Binman U15 Hurling Championship Division 2
Monday May 15th in Hospital
Hospital Herbertstown 2-9 Newcastle West 1-13
Our under 15 hurlers made the trip across the county to Hospital last Monday eve to take on Hospital/Herbertstown in the 3rd round of this year’s championship. Some injuries meant we travelled with only 18 players but our boys dug deep and came out on top by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 2-9 – 1-13. There were ominous signs early on when the home team hit an early goal but we slowly found our feet and it wasn’t long before Declan O’Grady had the ball in the net when he batted in a pass from Darragh O’Keeffe to get us up and going. Our boys probably had more than their fair share of possession with Leon O’Flynn and Thomas Hanley winning the midfield battle, but clinical shooting and some last ditch defending and goalkeeping from the home team had them in front at half time on a scoreline of 2-3 – 1-3 with points from Declan, Leon O’Flynn & Jack Horgan keeping us in touch. Some soft frees gave the opposition a 5 point lead early in the second half but we were still in the hunt and our possession soon began to show on the scoreboard. 3 more points from Declan O’Grady, a super point from Evan Crowley and 6 points from Darragh O’Keeffe (4 frees) in the 2nd half meant we crept ahead late in the game. Some outstanding defending from our backs with Diarmuid Cremin and Darragh Liston very dominant at 6 and 3 meant we maintained our lead until a late free to the home team had them only a point behind. The ref blew it up once Tiernan Horgan had hit the resulting puck out and we were on our way back west with 2 more points in the bag. It must be said that these boys are improving all the time and displaying an excellent attitude. Our backs and midfield fought hard for every ball and were the cornerstone of this victory. We have a break now for a few weeks and we would like to thanks all the parents for your continued support again this year.
Team: Tiernan Horgan, Cormac Noonan, Darragh Liston, Xsavier Bochnak, Darragh Fitzgerald, Diarmuid Cremin, Rory Vaughan, Leon O’Flynn, Thomas Hanley, Sean Fitzgerald, Jack Horgan, Darragh O’Keeffe, Evan Crowley, Declan O’Grady, Aaron Mullenger, Tristan Kirwan, Cillian Shanahan, Max Normoyle.
