NCW GAA Lotto

This week’s Lotto was held in ‘Ned Kelly’s’. The numbers were 01, 05, 10, 25. Congratulations to Tereasa Culhane, Hillview, Newcastle West who won the jackpot. of €17,600. Well done! Irish Wire Product Senior Football Championship

Newcastle West 1-17 Oola 0-06

Newcastle West finished the group stage of the championship with a 100% record following a comfortable win over Oola last Saturday evening in Killmallock. The sides were level twice in the opening six minutes, but Iain Corbett and Byran Nix scores saw them pull away to be three points ahead after twenty minutes. Although Oola tried to stay with NCW, Eoin Hurley and Nix scored to finish half time at 0-09 to 0-04. In the second half although Oola opened with a good score but NCW took full control and Iain Corbett punished a mistake by Oola to find the back of the net which sealed the win for NCW. A comprehensive win from Newcastle West on the day. Well done Magpies and looking forward to the semi- final which will take place in late October. NCW were coming into this R5 game unbeaten with two draws and two wins under their belt facing an F/K team with 4 wins so far. This top of table clash meant the winner advanced straight into Co semifinal. NCW played against a slight breeze in the first half and had 3 early points from Oisin Collins, Brian Hurley and Ethan Hurley. NCW were well on top in all sectors with our 6 backs dealing effectively with any F/K attack. Turnovers won by our backs were quickly recycled with impressive running and passing which led to 3 more scores from Brian O’Doherty, Lee Woulfe and an outstanding strike off the outside of the boot from wing back Mike O’Leary to put us 6 points ahead with 16 mins gone on the clock. Our midfield pairing of Joey Healy and Lee Woulfe were also well on top in this sector. Further scores from Niall McAuliffe (2) and Ben Finnegan put NCW 9 points ahead. Stephen Kelly and Oisin Collins were causing huge problems for F/K by making runs and linking up to great effect and it was from this platform that most scores came from when our backs ran the ball at speed. To their credit F/K pushed hard and were rewarded with a converted close in free to leave h/t score 9-1 to NCW. In the second half NCW picked up with same tempo and Lee Woulfe kicking 2 early long-range points. F/K kept the pressure up but again out backs held firm with Seamus Hurley in fine form. For the remainder of the game, we dominated with some great long-range scores from Oisin Collins (2) Niall McAuliffe, Ben Finnegan, and Jack O’Connor. F/K converted a late penalty and free to put 1-1 on the scoreboard but overall, a well-deserved win for NCW with some outstanding performances across the entire panel. Well done to management and team and a deserved spot in a county semi-final. Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship

NCW v Na Piarsaigh in Croagh on Sunday 24th September at 5pm.

Hurling is on the menu for the next two weeks with two very important matches coming up Na Piarsaigh and Bruff. First up is Na Piarsaigh this Sunday. Newcastle West now have three wins and two losses in the championship with Effin and Bruff on eight points and NCW, Blackrock and Dromin Athlacca on six. All to play for and next two games crucial.

Mr. Binman U17 Hurling Championship Division 2A

Our U17’s had two hard games last week against two strong teams. The first game was against Killacolla Games who are a fine strong team. The boys however stuck with them throughout the match and in very tough weather conditions came away with a draw. After conceding two goals in the first half, they switched how they played, and it worked well. A hard game and a good result to come away with. Well done boys! They hardly had time to wash their boots from Wednesday night and they were out again on Saturday morning in Tour against Glenquin Gaels which is an amalgamation of Monagea, Tournafulla and Kileedy. It was a fine brisk morning, and the hurling didn’t disappoint with fine scoring from both sides. NCW conceded four goals and that really put them under pressure. However, they made a fantastic recovery to come within two points in the end. A very competitive game which will be beneficial to both teams. A very enjoyable watch for all spectators. Hard luck boys but a very valiant effort all round. The boys are now in a play off against Killacolla Gaels in two weeks time. Onwards and upwards!

Well done to NCW U11s for winning the football tournament held in Askeaton last Sunday where they beat BallyLongford from Kerry in the final. Well done young Magpies.
