U12 Hurling League v Adare 23.05.19
Match Report by Declan O'Keeffe
This week’s round of U12 league action saw us travel to Adare to take on the traditionally strong Adare team. Again parents need to be mentioned as we had 24 players available which is fantastic for an away game. We must also thank Adare for agreeing to play 3 X 15 minute periods so that every player played for at least one period. We started well there was very little between the teams for the first period. The young Tiernan Horgan provided great security in goals while our back line proved difficult to penetrate although there were signs of some real individual talent in the Adare ranks. Points from Paul Logue & Declan O Grady saw us trail by 2 points when the ref blew up for the first break.
Our lads worked as hard as they could but Adare grew in confidence as the minutes passed and we were soon playing catch up. Our man marking was poor on the night & we allowed some easy scores against us and this is something we have to improve upon. Adare ran out winners in the end but our lads never gave up & blocked &; hooked well. Notable performances on the night came from Tiernan Horgan, Leon O’Flynn, Patrick Ryan, Jack Gallagher (especially in the final period) & Paul Logue.
It’s still early in the season so there is lots of time for improvement & not to sound like a broken record but…… the skills of most sports are perfected in the back garden or on the street & while there is clear evidence that some of our boys are putting in the extra time practicing these skills we would encourage all the boys to practice daily at home.
